This is an update to “Shirley Whitehead’s Madeira Walks”. The 2nd edition contains no less than 40 walks in addition to those covered in the “Walk! Maderia” book by the same author.
Shirley Whitehead’s Madeira Walks
Walking on La Gomera and El Hierro
This book concludes the series of single island editions that replaces the former “Walking in the Canaries Volume 1” from Cicerone. I would expect volume 2 is up for replacement next.
Walking on Tenerife
Do I even need to mention Tenerife? This is the classic destination in the Canaries for a walking holiday. And this is another book to support it.
Walking on La Palma
The island of La Palma is a wonderful experience in the Canaries, especially if you want something that is less touristed than average… Cicerone has previously had two volumes covering the entire island group, but now single island editions also exist.
Walking on the Amalfi Coast
The Amalfi coast is one of the best destinations for a walking holiday in entire Europe. I did not use this book on my recent visit to Amalfi, I was more than happy with the guide from Sunflower, but that is no reason I should not list also this book. Added to the Book Shop.
Walking in Sardinia
This is a new effort from Cicerone, a walking guide to the superb island of Sardinia. I do not have the book, nor have I seen it, but Paddy Dillon is a well known and respected author of walking guides, so I expect it should be a useful book. Added to the Book Shop.
Gran Canaria Update
I have recently acquired the 6th and latest edition of Noel Rochford’s Landscapes of Gran Canaria, published by Sunflower Books. This has triggered some small updates to the Gran Canaria page. Especially note that for my walk 4 (walk 19 in the book), the decent directly down into Los Palmitos has been fenced off and is now impassable. You can actually see this on Google Street View where the lane coming from the north into the park’s parking lot is barred and bolted. I would not suggest climbing the fences as a good option.
Heritage
As I doubt there will any good news to report from Greece in any foreseeable future we might as well continue with some good music. “Heritage” is the new album from one of my favorite bands, Opeth. You know the word I am thinking of: Awesome.
Album of the year?
Mastodon has really impressed me with their new release. The intensity and sheer power of this album is like nothing else. Recommended!
Nostalgia II
Talking about pioneers, this is a pioneer in Norwegian Science Fiction, nothing much existed before this one that was published in 1967. I read the book to shreds in my youth but I have no idea who that author really was and if he has written something else. At least some information can be found on the net now, including a couple of possible sources for a copy.
