The Bleasdale Walking Map of Paxos
Paxos has been mentioned before, and not without reason. Paxos just about the ultimate little Greek island. What I have not mentioned yet is “The Bleasdale Walking Map of Paxos” by Ian & Elizabeth Bleasdale. This book can be bought locally. Actually I am not sure if it’s a map with an accompanying booklet or … Continue reading
Alonnisos On Foot
Nearby Alonnisos has this book sold locally in English and Danish. For more information and updates see my Alonnisos page.
Skopelos Trails
Some select Greek islands have their own printed walking guides that are either written by people stationed on the island or by very frequent visitors. One of the books that has provided me with just about more fun than any other walking guide I have ever used is “Skopelos Trails” by Heather Parsons. For more … Continue reading
Landscapes of Sorrento, Amalfi and Capri
While on the subject of 2011, the exploration of the Mediterranean coast is still on. I will probably not have time for Italy this year, so in 2011 it is fairly certain I will take this book for a spin around Amalfi:
Walks in Lefkada & Meganisi
My plans for 2010 of course leave little room for additional escapades now, but there are islands whose visits are long overdue, even islands like the one mentioned yesterday that have their own walking guide(s). Sunflower Complete
A fairly new effort from Sunflower Books is their “Complete” series, which are not just walking guides, but are supposed to be complete tourist guides. In Greece they cover the island of Zakynthos (Zante), and this is for sure a book I will check out next year:
Walks in Plakias
While we are on the subject of Lance Chilton’s walking guides, this one has so far totally eluded me: The former two books covering the Plakias area of southern Crete has been merged into one new book. Finally got the Book Shop updated to show the correct information here.
Walks in Parga
Lance Chilton is one of my favorite guide book authors. By some rather dumb comments on Amazon it seems he is also the most underrated. His simple booklets may not look so impressive to everyone, but they are great for people that just care about the walking. General tourist guides can be bought elsewhere… Next … Continue reading
Which Restaurant Kos
If you are interested in Greek wine (and fine dining) Kos Town must have one the best restaurants in entire Greece. At Petrino they have a big catalogue consisting entirely of Greek wine. And what superb wines too. The quality of the food and service is also top notch.
Which Restaurant Rhodes
Those that want more restaurant tips can visit my island pages, but there are a couple of first class restaurants that maybe the average tourist does not dare to venture into that deserves some mention. Be warned that the price is in concordance with the quality. First out is Rhodes Old Town, where you will … Continue reading
