A real get-away-from-it-all island, with steep hills and tough terrain for at least some good walking. Not a lot is open here out of high season, but you will have a couple of tavernas to choose from. The food is good and simple. The little accommodation that exists are more than sufficient for the few people that venture here in low season, and prices are low. But in high season it may be full, phoning ahead is essential. A few more facilities are being built, though. Ferry tickets can be bought at the only supermarket. There is NO bank or telebank. There is one cardphone.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 24pt;\">T<\/span>he only sightseeing, except to visit the few settlements that exists, is to a rather scruffy cave, see the walk below. One nice beach, totally deserted in low season.<\/p>\n<p><b>Selected walks:<\/b> For walks on Iraklia take a look in &#8220;Walking the Aegean Islands&#8221; by Dieter Graf (referred to below as <span style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">&#8220;\/Graf\/&#8221;)<\/span>, &#8220;Naxos and the Small Cyclades&#8221; by Dieter Graf and Christian Ucke and the newer &#8220;Amorgos, Naxos, Paros and the Eastern &amp; Northern Cyclades&#8221; by Dieter Graf, which should be more up-to-date.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATE: An even newer and expanded guide to the smaller cyclades are &#8220;Naxos &amp; Small Cyclades&#8221; by Dieter Graf.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 24pt;\">\u20221\u00a0<\/span>Ag. Georgios &#8211; Ag. Ioannis &#8211; Ag. Georgios: (3h51 total time) This is walk 14 in <span style=\"white-space: nowrap;\">\/Graf\/<\/span>. On such a small island navigation is invariably rather easy. You just cannot go very wrong, just read the text carefully and you should find your way. Let me remark that the path from Ag. Athanassis towards the cave is extremely rough and requires the best in footwear.
